I had a great time photographing my first ever twins (sons of our sweet friends). Luckily, it was not as hard as I expected! Thanks Russell and Sandra for loaning out your gorgeous boys so I could get my baby boy fix (squared). Sandra, you should sell a CD of yourself singing songs and saying nursery rhymes in Swedish. I would buy a dozen! Loved spending the morning with you guys!

Wildflowers

I had the best time taking picture of my amazing friend and her girls as well as some of my girls in the beautiful yellow and red wildflowers. And thank you, Nicky, for taking such gorgeous photos of me with my girls, and even a few great photos of just me that I absolutely love (and that’s hard – I’m a tough critic!). The photos I’m in are by my awesome friend, the rest are taken by me. (Oh, and thanks to my hubby for loaning me his hat.)

Drama, drama, drama… and the beautiful results

To say that this family photo session started out on rocky ground would be a massive understatement. The girls were NOT in the mood to have their photo taken. In fact, one merely wanted to eat and the other just wanted to take a nap… and the crying was in stereo. But you would never know that everything didn’t go perfectly as you look at the photos. To know we got all of this accomplished, despite the tears, in about 20 minutes is astounding even to me. Nicky, you have a beautiful family and I am so blessed to call you my friend. I am happy I was able to capture a tiny bit of the beauty you radiate with my lens. I look forward to many more photo shoots in the future (and I’ll make sure to always have candy and perhaps a nice rock for skipping).

He isn’t comfortable in front of the camera but you would never know when looking at these photos. In addition to being ridiculously handsome, Tyler is smart, athletic and ultra talented. And he was oh-so-cooperative when taking these photos on none other than his 24th birthday. Please check out the Tyler Rushing Band, I’m positive you’ll enjoy their music.

Absolutely Amazing…

I was fortunate enough to have two photos I absolutely love taken last month by two awesome photographers. The first is of my husband and me. It was taken by the talented Dave McLaughlin of DCM Photography while at the Driveway Series season opener party at Mellow Johnny’s bike shop. I highly recommend Dave for portrait photography and if you’re getting married and want a wedding photographer he is the one I’d have do my wedding (or vow renewal in our case). Not only is Dave talented, but he’s also a very nice guy (and a great bike racer to boot).

The second photo I am in love with is a completely unplanned family photo taken by my friend, Nicky. She was in front of the lens on this day, but when my family showed up to take me out to dinner at the end of her session she offered to snap a shot and I am SO glad I accepted in spite of feeling totally yucky at the moment (post work, 5 mile run and photo shoot). One thing is for sure, Nicky is a very talented photographer and I am excited that I’ll be starting a joint venture with her in the Fall. (Yes, I’ll actually start taking paying clients again and will be saying goodbye to the freebies forever. Sorry friends!)

What I love about these two photos is that they each capture the love and joy I feel for my family. Believe it or not, my husband and I have been “together” for over 18 years now and married for more than 10 of those years. We’re not as ancient as those numbers make us sound, we just met and fell in love young (I was 17, he was 18). We’ve done a lot of growing up and evolving together. We have celebrated 10 anniversaries, created two amazing little girls, felt the sting of the loss of our first pet (we miss you, Sarah), bought a couple houses, graduated and then re-entered college… and all of it has been together. I am really looking forward to what the future has in store for us but more importantly I’m very content with my present. Life is so unpredictable, but when you have family you have everything you will ever need to truly LIVE life one day at a time. I loved today and can’t wait for tomorrow! Life can be absolutely amazing if you just learn to live and let the inconsequential things go.

This post is extra special because the mom-to-be is one of my very favorite friends. Not only is she talented, sweet, thoughtful and amazing… she makes pregnancy look just as amazing. Who can get away with skinny jeans and 4 inch heels in the 3rd trimester? I certainly couldn’t! Can’t wait to meet the new little darlin’!

Couldn’t resist scrapping all these photos of my 9 year old. I designed it as 2 separate pages and merged it in PS, so it doesn’t line up exactly perfectly, but not too bad in my opinion. When I print, the center seam will be in the album’s “gutter” anyway. CREDITS HERE
